Hands

Hands are very tricky to draw. I’ve started and given up on so many hand drawings. Between a photo of a hand burn and my own hand as a model, this is what I came up with. It’s still a bit off and I’m not sure why.

  1. I feel the same when it comes to drawing hands. I think a lot of artist struggle with it so it’s a little comforting to know that we’re not the only ones. I think you have a good start and it’s worth keeping up the practice.

One resource comes to mind when I think of instructions on drawing the human body and that’s Andrew Loomis’ work. He has really good tutorials and also has one on drawing hands of all ages and genders. Check out the pdf from page 119 onwards for how to draw hands:

    Hope this helps!

  2. Hi Annie,

I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one! Thank you for your words of encouragement and the helpful tutorial. I love how it covers different types of hands as well (women, babies, children, aging hands). Very cool.
